The cryptocurrency market started the week in the red, with most cryptocurrencies crashing significantly, following tech stocks in the pre-market. Some traders and investors believe this crash offers a fundamental opportunity to buy Bitcoin (BTC) or Altcoins as 2025 starts.
In the last 24 hours, Bitcoin lost 5.51%, trading at $98,910, while altcoins crashed by 7.71%. TradingView’s Total Crypto Market Cap Excluding BTC Index (TOTAL2) marks $1.34 trillion, suffering slightly more than the leader.

Nevertheless, analysts eye an incoming altcoin season (or altseason), according to indicators like Bitcoin Dominance (BTC.D). As Finbold reported, different analysts are looking to BTC.D and fundamental aspects, including macroeconomics and the regulatory landscape in the United States, forecasting altcoins to soon outperform in gains.

Interestingly, even Michael Saylor, formerly known for his “Bitcoin maximalist” stance is apparently shifting his narrative and strategy, calling for a “Crypto Renaissance,” instead of a “Bitcoin Renaissance” as he would usually do. This comes after Saylor admitted in an interview he was wrong about Ethereum (ETH), seeing value in its use case.
On January 26, as the crash started, Binance’s former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) urged investors to “stick with fundamental,” saying “time will be on your side.”

Grok AI picks between Bitcoin or Altcoins as the best buy for 2025
In this context, Finbold consulted with Grok 2, an artificial intelligence model developed by xAI that challenges the legacy web. Elon Musk’s AI considered all the information we shared above, plus real-time analysis on the web, including the X platform.
After deeply analyzing both potential buys from an investment perspective, Grok concluded on whether Bitcoin or Altcoins would make a better purchase at this point.
In summary, BTC could still be the better choice for conservative investors, in the AI’s output. This considering Bitcoin’s “established market position, liquidity, and perceived safety,” being less volatile than altcoin.
On the other and, aggressive investors could benefit from “more lucrative opportunities” presented by altcoins. “The potential for significant gains, backed by innovation in blockchain technology, and regulatory shifts,” the AI said, “make altcoins appealing for those willing to accept higher risk.”

However, Michael Saylor’s apparent shift in narrative and the regulatory changes under Donald Trump, favor a “diversified approach,” Grok concluded. “Including both Bitcoin for stability and a selection of altcoins with strong fundamentals or innovative use cases could balance risk and reward.”
